5. Coaches of Louisville: Ron Mann
For this month's episode of Coaches of Louisville, we had the pleasure of interviewing Coach Ron Mann. Ron's love for the sport began when he was in high school. He became the state champion in the 880 yards as a senior. He continued his running career in college at Northern Arizona University and later became the head coach at NAU. What you will notice when watching this interview is how passionate he is for the people he has coached and continues to coach. He says numerous times throughout this interview how he is about coaching an athlete not the event. Coach Mann had a lot of success at NAU and decided to take on a new challenge when he took over the University of Louisville's program in 2004. Coach Mann was able to prove to himself he could develop another successful program and to NAU that they didn't need him to be successful. Coach Mann has given so much of himself to both NAU and UofL and because of his intentionality these programs have a rich culture. Coach Mann had the opportunity to coach at the Olympic Games and has coached numerous professional athletes with Wesley Korir being one of them. Coach Mann talks about how yes all of the accolades have been nice, but nothing compares to the relationships he has been able to build we the athletes. We are thankful to have Coach Mann as our friend and are excited for you to learn a little about his coaching career.
