12. Runners of Louisville: Mike Purvis
For our 12th episode of Runners of Louisville, we interviewed Mike Purvis. Mike got into running in high school because some of his friends wanted him to join the cross-country team. Mike was a very active kid and realized soon after he began running, he was pretty good at it. Mike ran for Butler High School and then continued his running career at the University of Louisville. The switch from high school training to collegiate training was an adjustment but Mike found his groove and enjoyed his time on the team. After college Mike took a break from running and got back into bike racing. Nothing was off limits when it came to bikes as he pursued different disciplines of the sport. This was also the time period in his life where he began his career in sports massage and founded Workitout Massage. His experience in sport allows him to relate with clients as they pursue their fitness goals.
Mike found his way back to running after his 11-year hiatus because he was interested in triathlons. His love for the sport is part of what drove him to found Kentuckiana Race Management which began with hosting triathlons in the Kentuckiana area. Since 2015 the company has grown to host a triathlon series and is now switching gears to host its first road race, SummerFest 10k on June 11, 2022. Mike has traveled the world to compete and uses this experience to host first class races. He has been a vital part of the running community for many years, and we are excited for you to get to know him a little better through this interview.
